Real Betis became the first team to beat Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid in 2026/27 and their tweet about doing so is garnering a lot of attention.
Madrid were far from their best on Friday night, and had no reply after Troy Parrott scored in the 81st minute of the match to hand Betis the three points.
Kylian Mbappe had a good chance to equalise at the very end of the game but the Frenchman missed his penalty, which means Mourinho has now lost his first game since returning to Los Blancos for his second spell.

On the back of their win on Friday, Betis’ official English X/Twitter account posted about handing Jose his first loss.
They wrote: “Let me introduce you to the first team to defeat José Mourinho’s Real Madrid,” followed by a picture of their club badge.
At the time of writing, that tweet has over 50,000 likes and many fans have responded.
One tweeted: “Real Betis got jokes,” with a second writing: “Defeating a Mourinho team is a huge feat, that’s some serious history.”
Another stated: “Admin deserves a pay rise.” A fourth commented: “Officially a Real Betis fan. I promised that the first La Liga team to beat Real Madrid will be my second team.”
A fifth then responded to the tweet from Betis by stating: “That’s cold.”
Real Madrid are now due to return to action on September 8 when they kick off their Champions League campaign against Inter Milan.
