Not many college football fans are more excited to be in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 12 than Matthew McConaughey.
The “Interstellar” actor and Texas alum appeared on ESPN Sept. 8 to discuss the gravity of the Texas-Ohio State football game.
“Saturday night, that’s going to touch the Richter scale,” McConaughey said. “The rest of the globe is going to feel and know that that is the spot to be on the planet!”
McConaughey was in attendance for Ohio State’s victory over Texas in the 2025 season opener, a noon game in Columbus. The Buckeyes won 14-7.
McConaughey was one of many celebrities rooting for Texas at Ohio Stadium. Other celebrities, such as movie star Glen Powell, former MLB pitcher Roger Clemens and Texas governor Greg Abbott made the trip while sporting burnt orange in support for the Longhorns.
This year’s game, however, will be a night affair at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, which McConaughey is excited about.
“It will be electric,” he said. “It will hit into a volume frequency that [will make you] look down and wonder if your heels are still on the ground, even if you wear the heavy boots like I do.

“We’re ready. We’ve been looking forward to this. It will be 102,000 strong. It will be lit from the turf to the stands to the sky. It will be a night game, so everyone will be properly lubricated and ready to get it on with the burnt orange in the stands. It’ll be the hell of the 12th man that we’ll have. The whole weekend will be great, but Saturday night, that will be the place to be on the planet.”

McConaughey is a longtime supporter of Texas athletics, having graduated from the school in 1993 with a film degree.
As of Sept. 9, Texas is a 1.5-point favorite to beat Ohio State, according to BetMGM’s odds.
