Sophie Cunningham was called out by WNBA fans for missing Caitlin Clark’s gold medal game.
When Team USA secured its fifth straight FIBA World Cup gold medal following a stunning win over France, many fans were expecting Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham to be in attendance.
However, Cunningham missed the game, and when she was asked about the reason, the Fever star simply stated that she was busy.
This caused a major uproar among Fever fans, as they felt Cunningham didn’t want to show support for Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and the rest of the players on Team USA.

Sophie Cunningham explains why people are ‘dumb’ after FIBA gold medal game outrage
Cunningham used her new podcast, ‘No Hesitation,’ to explain her stance and why there was no malicious intent on her part.
“You don’t think that I’m not invested in [it]. First of all, USA in any sport, I’m going to be tracking. And then my coach is there and my two teammates.
“Like, I’m dialed in, but people are just dumb, dumb, dumb,” Cunningham said in frustration.
Cunningham mainly used her free time during the WNBA break to engage in other off-court activities. However, fans didn’t see that and jumped to the conclusion.
While Cunningham has clarified that she diligently follows Team USA in all sports, some fans will still call her out for being ‘busy’ during the gold medal game.
