El Diamante High School has a new head football coach.
Jesse Lira stepped down as the Miners’ head coach on Monday, Sept. 21, after a 0-4 start, El Diamante athletic director Kim Watamura said.
Lira was in his first season with the Miners. El Diamante has scored only 21 points through its first four games and is coming off back-to-back shutout losses to Redwood (4-0) and Kingsburg (4-1).
Brian Allen, who joined Lira’s staff as an associate head coach this year, will take over as interim head coach to finish the season.
Allen is familiar with Visalia football.
He was the Golden West interim head coach in 2021 and has also coached at Mt. Whitney. He was on Nathan Chamberlain’s Pioneers’ staff when they won an outright East Yosemite League championship during the 2023 campaign.
El Diamante has not won a game since the 2024 season, losing 17 straight.
The Miners travel to play Mission Oak (0-4) on Friday, Sept. 25, at Bob Mathias Stadium in Tulare.
The Hawks are also on a losing streak, having lost 10 in a row, but scored a season-high 43 points in a loss to undefeated Tulare Western (5-0).
