FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart University leaned on a powerful rushing attack, running 59 times for 243 yards and defeated the University of New Hampshire, 20-13, in a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) football game Saturday, Sept. 26.
The Wildcats fell to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while Sacred Heart improved to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the CAA.
Joquez Smith paced the UNH offense with a game-high 107 rushing yards on 18 carries. Myles Thomason added 74 yards on 11 carries, including a 49-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Brooks Bentley completed 11 of 19 passes for 81 yards, with his longest completion a 24-yard connection to tight end Colby Ramshaw.
Defensively, Trevor Barry recorded a career-high 16 tackles, while Cohen Cook added a personal-best 15 tackles. Matthew Sopp contributed a career-high seven tackles and forced a fumble that was recovered by Cook. Ethan Aghakhan also posted a personal-best seven tackles.
UNH returns home Saturday, Oct. 3, to host Elon University in a CAA matchup scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
