Who’ll be the tougher opponent Friday night as Central Texas football teams begin to navigate the second half of the 2026 high school season: their district foes they’re playing or the Austin-area weather they’ll be playing in?
A welcome Pacific cold front pushed into the Central Texas area Thursday, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall with it that turned conditions soggy for the two area games that were scheduled. Westlake beat Round Rock 38-17 in an important District 25-6A game at Chaparral Stadium and Smithson Valley pounded Lehman 77-3 in their District 13-5A Division I matchup. But there are more rains coming Friday and all those fields across Central Texas were already saturated from Thursday.

The top matchups for this week as area schools all are in their district schedules include the Cedar Park Timberwolves (5-0, 1-0) trying to stay undefeated against Rouse (3-2, 1-0) in District 24-6A, Georgetown hosting College Station in an important District 12-5A DI game, and the first-ever matchup between Liberty Hill and LHISD sister school Legacy Ranch.
We’re at two games. Colby Gordon is providing live coverage of Hutto vs. Vista Ridge and Shaun Chornobroff is providing live coverage at Liberty Hill-Legacy Ranch.
There are 22 games scheduled for Friday night; 23 teams were already using Week 6 as their bye week.
