LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin met with the media on Monday and provided an injury update on star LSU tight end Trey’Dez Green. The LSU pass catcher injured his knee at Ole Miss in Week 3 and missed LSU’s last two games.
Kiffin said Green is no longer wearing a brace and is “getting closer.” However, there’s no clear timetable for Green’s return.
“If there’s anybody that could come back sooner than maybe people thought, it would be him,” Kiffin said.
Green, who began 2026 with All-American expectations, is arguably the most dangerous pass-catching tight end in the country. When he was healthy, he ignited LSU’s passing game. Green’s athletic ability, paired with his 6-foot-7 frame, makes him nearly impossible to cover. When LSU needed a first down, LSU QB Sam Leavitt looked for Green. Prior to the injury, Green caught 14 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown.
LSU managed fine without Green the last two games, but the competition level is about to increase. LSU’s next two games are against quality opponents (Kentucky and Mississippi State). LSU hopes to have Green back by November, when LSU hosts Alabama after the Tigers‘ bye week.
Lane Kiffin says Trey’Dez Green is out of the brace and “getting closer,” but no timetable yet for a return.
“If there’s anybody that could come back sooner than maybe people thought, it would be him,” he added.

Until then, LSU will rely on a committee approach at tight end, with Zach Grace, Malachi Thomas, and Roman Mothershed all getting a chance.
