Texas football was unable to overcome a second-half collapse in the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma to win the Golden Hat trophy.
And with that, the Longhorns‘ four-week run as the top-ranked team in the country has come to an end.
Steve Sarkisian’s squad fell 27-24 to the Sooners on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas after Tate Sandell drilled a game-winning 47-yard field goal as time expired. The victory marked Oklahoma’s first win over Texas with the Longhorns ranked No. 1 in the country.
Arch Manning completed 19-of-31 passes for 260 yards with three touchdowns, but did finish with two interceptions. His first interception was returned for a 42-yard touchdown by Peyton Bowen, the first interception returned of Manning’s career with the Longhorns.
His second interception, which came with 19 seconds left in a tied game, was just as costly. It set up Oklahoma’s eventual game-winning field goal from Sandell.
So, where will the Longhorns be ranked heading into their home matchup against No. 15 Florida? Here’s what to know:
Where did Texas football after Oklahoma loss?

Texas fell five spots, from No. 1 to No. 6, in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll that was released on Sunday, Oct. 11. The Longhorns were one of three top-10 teams to lose in Week 6, with Alabama and LSU as the others. Texas had the third most drastic drop in the poll, with Oregon having the worst.
Oklahoma, meanwhile, received 50 votes, making the Sooners the unofficial 29th-ranked team in the country.
