It’s fair to say Texas has had an active and incredibly fruitful offseason. They’ve made incredible additions seemingly across the board, from coaching staff to transfer portal to the freshman recruiting class. Because of this, it’s hard to pin down which additions are most impactful but I’ll give it a try.
Here’s my Top 5 adds Steve Sarkisian and the Texas program made this offseason.
1. Will Muschamp
It does not get bigger in my mind than Will Muschamp. Among each of these groups, it’s hard to find a more sure thing than Muschamp as a defensive coordinator. He’s been a part of as many elite defenses as just about any coach in the sport and there’s no reason to believe he doesn’t have another one on his hands this year. On top of that, I believe his defense will be a better fit for SEC play and possible CFP games for Texas. There’s little question to me that no offseason addition was bigger than bringing Muschamp back to Austin.
2. Melvin Siani
Siani was the biggest player Texas added because he fundamentally changed the way the Texas OL looks in 2026. He’ll immediately be the starter at RT, very likely being an upgrade from Brandon Baker a year ago. On top of that, I believe Baker is better suited to be a guard moving forward and will help the IOL excel this season. Siani puts together not only what figures to be the best OT duo in 2026 but if he sticks around for 2027, I believe it’ll make the transition following Arch Manning much easier.
3. Rasheem Biles
This is the biggest portal addition on defense by a wide margin to me. Biles answers so many questions for this defense and can end up being an All-American level player for Texas. The Will Muschamp defense needs an elite playmaker at LB to really reach its full potential. There is no question Biles is one of the best playmakers at LB in all of college football. LB is still a relative question mark for Texas but having someone like Biles makes it a much smaller question mark.
4. Cam Coleman
You can’t leave this guy off the list. He took an offense that looked to be in good shape heading into 2026 and made it look special. The Steve Sarkisian offense needs one thing more than anything else: space. Cam Coleman requires multiple defenders‘ attention on every single play. That means Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley and every other pass catcher gets more favorable matchups. Coleman will not only make remarkable plays of his own but will open up the Texas offense for everyone else to me more effectively.

5. Tyler Atkinson
I really believe this is one of the most special players to come to Austin in quite a while. Obviously 2026 is his first season, so it’s hard to say he’s going to be this guy immediately, but he’s capable of it. His physical ability is off the charts but his IQ might be better and I think that’s where he sets himself apart in this group. He put together a prolific high school career and I expect the same in college. To me, Atkinson could go down as one of the best defensive players Texas has had in quite a while.
