With the 2026 high school cross country season in its early stages, some storylines are starting to take shape led by sisters Elin Latta and Iris Latta, of South Texas Heat, a homeschool athletic organization. With six weeks until the UIL district meets begin, here are some top returning girls runners in Greater San Antonio.
Mia Kellogg, Churchill, Soph.
Kellogg returns as a reigning district champion after winning 27-6A in 18:37.56. Last weekend, she won the Buda Hays Invitational in 18:05, which ranks 29th this season. Kellogg is coming off a spring track season in which she qualified for the UIL state championships in the 3,200-meter run.
Elin Latta, South Texas Heat, Jr.
Elin Latta has returned to form after an ankle injury prevented her from competing at Nike Nationals last December and for most of spring’s track season. Latta clocked 16 minutes, 48.40 seconds on a 5,000 meter course to win last weekend’s Southlake Carroll Invitational. That time is tops in Texas for that distance and No. 5 in the nation. Latta was selected as the 2025 Express-News Girls Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning the Texas Homeschool State Championship. She finished with the nation’s 12th best 5,000-meter performance last season.
Iris Latta, South Texas Heat, Jr.
Iris Latta ranks second right behind her sister, Elin, among the state’s top runners for 5,000 meters this season. Iris Latta finished third at the Southlake Carroll Invitational (17.39.90). She has a season best (17:23.97) while taking second at the San Antonio Friday Night Lights meet last month.
Savanah Moya, New Braunfels, Sr.
Moya returns as a three-time UIL state qualifier, which includes a seventh place finish in 5A in 2025 and a fifth place in 2024. Moya has been a consistent high school distance runner. She also finished fourth in the 800- and the 1,600-meter runs at the UIL state track and field championships. She is off to a strong start in 2026 with a first place finish in McAllen and second place at Austin Westlake.
Savannah Parker, Castle Hills Christian, Jr.
Parker returns as the reigning TAPPS Class 4A state champion. Parker claimed the title by the narrowest of margins, timing 12:58.3 for 3,200 meters. She beat Elizabeth Hamblin of Arlington Pantego Christian (12:58.4). Last spring, she won the TAPPS Class 4A state track and field championships in the 1,600 run with a personal best (5:19.73) and was second in the 3,200 (11:55.01).
Aubrey Pozzi, Smithson Valley, Jr.
Pozzi claimed last year’s Region IV-5A championship before finishing sixth at the UIL state championships. Pozzi was the lead runner for the Rangers, who finished second overall in the team standings. She was a key member of Smithson Valley’s state championship team in 2024 when she was 20th.
