A prominent college basketball analyst for ESPN believes the Spartans are in for a fun run this NCAA Tournament.
Michigan State landed as the No. 3 seed in the East Region when the NCAA Tournament bracket was released on Sunday. The draw for the Spartans is tough, with a possible stretch of games against Louisville, UConn and Duke just to make it out of their region. But one analyst believes they’ll get it done.
Like many do this time of year, Jay Bilas of ESPN has released his game-by-game predictions for the entire NCAA Tournament, outlining how he envisions the bracket playing out. Well, he likes Michigan State to make it all the way to the final game of the tournament.
Here’s how Bilas has it playing out for the Spartans:
- Beats No. 14 seed North Dakota State in the first round
- Beats No. 11 seed South Florida in the second round
- Beats No. 2 seed UConn in the Sweet 16
- Beats No. 1 seed Duke in the Elite Eight
- Beats No. 3 seed Illinois in the Final Four
- Loses to No. 1 seed Arizona in National Championship
While losing in the title game would be tough to swallow, I’m sure many Spartans would take another deep run like this one should it play out like Bilas is projecting.
The Spartans will begin their hopefully lengthy tournament run on Thursday against the Bison. That game will tipoff approximately at 4:05 p.m. ET and be televised on TNT.
