Over the past month, there’s been growing speculation that the Oregon Ducks would be the landing spot for 2027 four-star quarterback Will Mencl. Head coach Dan Lanning and his staff offered him early on and continued to build their relationship as he surged up the recruiting rankings thanks to a standout performance at the 2026 Navy All-American Bowl.
The sentiment of Mencl ending up with the Ducks may still remain true, but another quarterback is suddenly factoring into Oregon’s plans as they offered the No. 2 passer in the 2027 class, Jake Nawrot, on Monday evening. He soon scheduled a visit, telling Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong that he’ll be in Eugene on March 31.
Nawrot is currently rated as a four-star, the second-ranked passer and No. 40 player overall, per 247 Sports Composite. He competes for John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, IL, where he’s the top-ranked player in the state.

Along with now holding an offer from the Ducks, Nawrot has roughly 20 other offers highlighted by Kentucky, Florida State and Oklahoma State. A number of blue-blood programs have yet to extend an offer, though Oregon may start a trend of recruiting hard to land Nawrot.
Though it’s not completely unheard of, it’s highly unlikely that the Ducks would see both quarterbacks commit, likely settling for just one passer in the 2027 class. Whether it’s Mencl, the early favorite, or Nawrot, the sudden riser with “things developing quickly,” according to Wiltfong, remains to be seen.
Regardless of how this situation turns out, it has a chance to have a rippling affect on the 2027 quarterback landscape across college football in the coming months.
