Arman Tsarukyan doesn’t think Max Holloway has it anymore after his dominant BMF title loss.
Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) was outgrappled in a lopsided decision loss to Charles Oliveira in the UFC 326 main event earlier this month. Tsarukyan, who edged out Oliveira at UFC 300, was surprised with how easily the Brazilian was able to take Holloway down at will.
With rumblings of Holloway potentially being Conor McGregor’s comeback fight, Tsarukyan thinks it’s a good matchup.
“Stylistically, it’s a good fight for Conor,” Tsarukyan said on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” “Max is done already. He’s just going to make money and then retire. Yeah, he’s not that Max anymore. He looks so bad. His last fight, he looked so bad. That’s crazy. I was surprised. How can you not wrestle?
“Zero wrestling. You’ve been in this sport 20 years and you cannot even defend a takedown from Charles Oliveira. Charles Oliveira has no takedowns. He has good jiu-jitsu, but I’ve never seen him wrestle very well. It was like a masterclass of wrestling from Charles.”
Holloway has split his past four appearances. After scoring an incredible knockout of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, he was knocked out in a featherweight title loss to Ilia Topuria. That prompted a permanent move up to lightweight, where he defeated Dustin Poirier in his retirement fight at UFC 318. Now, he has lost his BMF title to Oliveira.
