Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran had plenty of praise for Connelly Early after his start on Wednesday.
Early pitched seven scoreless innings in an 8-0 win over Atlanta, while he struck out seven and allowed just four hits. After the dominant outing, Duran called Early a ‘dog’ and had plenty of praise for him.
“It’s almost a little nice to be out there in the outfield and just kind of chill when he’s out there doing his thing,” Duran said postgame on Wednesday. “Sometimes you get lost just watching him carve up there. But I’m not surprised. I don’t think anybody else in the clubhouse is surprised.”
Duran, meanwhile, admits it’s surprising to remember Early is a rookie doing all this.
“After what he did last year for us in the playoffs, I feel like he had to grow up pretty quick,” Duran said. “Some of us forget he’s a rookie and he’s doing the things that he’s doing.”
After a dominant outing against the Braves, Early is now 5-2 with a 2.95 ERA in 11 starts as he’s been a major bright spot in Boston’s rotation.
The Red Sox selected the left-hander in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Boston will look for the series win over Atlanta on Thursday afternoon.
