With the college softball regular season in the books, award season is in full swing. On Wednesday, two Longhorns Reese Atwood and Ashton Maloney, edged themselves into the record books when they were named Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners. The duo became the program’s first two Golden Glove Award winners.
For Atwood, Wednesday’s news was the latest accomplishment in a stellar career as a Longhorn. She finished her time in the Forty Acres as a three-time NFCA All-American. She is just the fourth Longhorn in program history to earn at least three NFCA All-America selections. The talented catcher is part of a group that includes Janae Jefferson, Blaire Luna, and Cat Osterman. Atwood also collected SEC All-Defensive Team and Second-Team All-SEC honors this season.

As Atwood took her game to another level, she was joined by Maloney. The Longhorns outfielder has been a model of consistency throughout her college career. During the 2026 campaign, she posted a .979 fielding percentage with 39 putouts. The Liberty High alum also added seven assists and a double play to her resume this season.
Now that the regular season is over, Texas is turning its attention to the postseason. They will begin their national title chase against No.7 Tennessee on Thursday. While the Volunteers have a talented roster, Texas is well-equipped to make a deep postseason run.
With this being Reese Atwood’s final run as a Longhorn she spoke about what she’s looking forward to in OKC…
“I think going into this week I’m honestly just looking to just make more memories. We talked before practice about the memories I’ve had with this program and honestly… pic.twitter.com/Z26uTiUVPF

Regardless of how the next few weeks play out, Atwood and Maloney will always hold a unique place in Longhorns’ history. They are two of the best defenders the program has ever seen, and now they have the hardware to back it up.
