The New York Jets have one Organized Team Activity (OTA) practice left. It’ll occur on June 11th. The June 8th practice was the second-last OTA session before the Jets begin preparing for mandatory minicamp (Jun. 16-18).
General manager Darren Mougey made sweeping changes to the roster this offseason. One of his big summer acquisitions was Demario Davis, a 37-year-old veteran linebacker who reunites with the Jets after playing for the team in 2017. After leaving the Jets, Davis became a two-time Pro Bowl selection with the New Orleans Saints.
Davis is making an instant impact on the Jets from a maturity and leadership perspective. At the aforementioned June 8th practice, the four-time Second-Team All-Pro recorded this interception seen below. It appeared to be a ball intended for Garrett Wilson in traffic. Remember the Jets didn’t record a single interception last season, so Davis is more than welcome to help this defense create some turnovers.
The expectation is that Davis will start opposite Jamien Sherwood at off-ball linebacker. He’ll replace Quincy Williams, who left the team in free agency. Davis and Sherwood will give Aaron Glenn a reliable, veteran duo at linebacker. The aging-like-fine-wine defender is already making plays at Jets practice.
