Dillon Brooks had a career season in his first year with the Phoenix Suns. He did this by fully embracing what people thought is his role in the NBA – an enforcer.
He embraced being the villain. He even loves it.
However, before the playoffs started, he received pieces of unsolicited advice. Charles Barkley said he needed to keep his mind on the game. He almost missed doing that during their first round series with the Oklahoma City Thunder. They eventually got swept.
It was not Brooks fault at all. The Thunder was just too good compared to the Suns which got a rag-tag team following a blockbuster 2025 summer trade that saw them lose their super scorer.
Phoenix overachieved, somehow, and big part of that is the 2023 All Defensive Second Team member. They expect him to continue his exploits. They even signed him to a three-year, $73 million extension last month.
Brooks said the new deal comes with bigger goals. He wants to go for the championship.
“I’m not content with getting money and being rewarded like that,” Brooks told Duane Rankin of AZCentral.
“I love basketball. My reward would be a championship. You know, $73 million is showcasing, and now you’re a pretty good player, but accolades from the NBA.”
New Dillon Brooks next season?
Brooks has a new goal but he needs to stay on the floor more. He recently said that he wants to avoid getting a lot of technical fouls.
“My villain goal would probably be not to get 17 technical fouls in a season. We’ll see if I can save them for the end,” he said.

The Canadian forward is currently in China and was spotted participating in a mind and body workout.

Kung Fu is not like any other sports. It is meant to help someone master his mind and body.
Victor Wembanyma of the San Antonio Spurs was also in China last summer and worked with monks in a Shaolin temple for similar goals.
