Despite Colin Simmons having five sacks for the Texas Longhorns, Arch Manning being interviewed over him has caused quite the controversy.
Simmons’ five sacks, along with his lewd celebration that earned one of the most controversial and talked-about penalties in quite some time, became a huge talking point.
However, despite Simmons’ noteworthy afternoon, Fox Sports opted to interview Longhorns QB Arch Manning instead, despite his unremarkable performance.
Emmanuel Acho calls on College Football coverage to not interview the biggest names
Emmanuel Acho took to X after seeing Fox Sports correspondents approach Texas Longhorns QB Arch Manning for an interview after their win over the Tennessee Volunteers.
Acho suggested that Manning was being interviewed despite an unremarkable performance and having very little insight to offer. He added that Colin Simmons deserved to be interviewed after being the team’s standout performer.
“I can’t wait for football coverage to evolve. We should be interviewing Colin Simmons post-game, the player who recorded 5 sacks & one of the most controversial penalties in recent history.
“Instead, we interview Arch, who basically says, I didn’t play well & have nothing to say.”
Arch Manning didn’t do much against the Volunteers, with zero touchdowns while throwing for 201 yards and having one pass intercepted.
On the other hand, Simmons had an excellent game with eight total tackles, with six solo tackles and five sacks against the Volunteers.
The insinuation from Acho is that Manning, as one of the biggest names in college football, is being prioritised over players who outperformed him in the win.
Of course, many fans know that Arch is the son of Cooper Manning, the older brother of legendary NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning.
Arch was also named after his grandfather and the patriarch of the Manning family, Archie Manning, another legendary quarterback who played for Ole Miss, the Houston Oilers, and the Minnesota Vikings.
As potentially the first third-generation quarterback in NFL history, Manning is a massive media figure and a huge name in college football.
And sometimes, that can lead broadcasters and media outlets to focus on him over the rest of his teammates, even when he hasn’t played very well.
Hopefully, this media attention doesn’t get to Manning, as it could cause ego and personality issues for him when he eventually reaches the NFL.
