The temperature is rising under South Carolina coach Shane Beamer’s seat after back-to-back losses, but Beamer is laying down the law on one of the team’s most talented players.
South Carolina suspended pass-rusher Dylan Stewart indefinitely on Sunday, a day after Stewart found himself at the center of multiple incidents during a blowout loss to Alabama.
Once considered to be one of the best young defenders in the country, Stewart had 10.5 tackles for loss as a true freshman but only posted 4.5 sacks last season and has been on and off the field early this season due to injury.

Beamer announced Sunday that Stewart has been suspended indefinitely after punching an Alabama player following a Crimson Tide touchdown in Saturday’s loss.

The officials didn’t catch the punch, but cameras certainly did, and Beamer said after the game that he was “embarrassed” by Stewart’s actions.
Along with the punch, Stewart was seen jawing with Alabama coaches, talking back to his own coaches and attempting to sit alone on the bench away from the rest of his team.

Beamer announced he will make a decision on Stewart’s status with the program early this week, which indicates he could be dismissed altogether. The South Carolina coach also confirmed Stewart will not play against Kentucky on Saturday, though he didn’t make any assurances beyond that game.
Stewart ranks sixth on the NFL Mock Draft Database‘s consensus big board for the 2027 NFL Draft.
