Philadelphia Eagles players had reasons to believe Sunday would end differently. Their defense intercepted Matthew Stafford twice, Darius Cooper caught two touchdown passes, and a 20-10 lead had Los Angeles running out of time at Lincoln Financial Field.
But the Eagles never found the play that would finish the game. Their advantage disappeared through a collection of failed conversions, penalties and missed tackles, leaving another loss that felt more self-inflicted than inevitable.
Nick Sirianni Takes Blame After Jalen Hurts Gets Locked Up
Philadelphia finished 0-for-12 on third down and converted only one of four fourth-down attempts. Those failures prevented the offense from building on the turnovers created by Cooper DeJean and Andrew Mukuba.

Jalen Hurts was stopped on a fourth-and-1 quarterback sneak during the third quarter. The more damaging failure came later, when Philadelphia faced fourth-and-goal from the Rams’ 2-yard line while leading 20-10.
Nick Sirianni kept his offense on the field instead of attempting a field goal. Hurts immediately faced pressure and threw off his back foot toward Cooper, but the pass fell incomplete.
“You go for it and you don’t get it, that’s on the head coach,” Sirianni said. “And we didn’t get it, so that’s on me.”
Los Angeles responded with a 98-yard touchdown drive that cut the lead to three. Philadelphia then received the ball at its 40-yard line after the kickoff went out of bounds, but a delay-of-game penalty contributed to another three-and-out.
The Eagles finished with 172 total yards and averaged only 3.0 yards per play. Hurts completed 12 of 27 passes for 93 yards and was sacked four times.
Penalties and Missed Tackles Complete Eagles’ Collapse
Philadelphia committed 10 accepted penalties for 57 yards. The most damaging came from Jonathan Jones, whose late hit on Kyren Williams added 13 yards during the Rams’ first fourth-quarter touchdown drive.
Riq Woolen was later flagged for defensive pass interference as Los Angeles moved into scoring position again. Williams finished that possession by breaking through tackle attempts from Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Michael Carter II on his winning 7-yard touchdown.

The Eagles still had one final possession, but Byron Young sacked Hurts twice. His second takedown forced a fumble that Markel Bell recovered before Philadelphia failed on fourth-and-25.
Cam Jurgens struggled to accept how many opportunities the Eagles had let slip away.
“When we didn’t have a good drive to put together, we didn’t capitalize and score,” Jurgens said. “I’m just sick. I’m sick.”
Philadelphia forced two turnovers and held a 10-point fourth-quarter lead. But three failed fourth downs, 10 penalties, four sacks and two missed tackles on the winning touchdown proved too much to overcome.
