Travis Hunter’s first career interception is a pick of Drake Maye in the end zone

It took until his second season, but Travis Hunter has his first career interception.

It was a big one on Sunday in an AFC showdown between Hunter’s Jacksonville Jaguars and the reigning AFC champion New England Patriots.

With Jacksonville holding a 14-3 lead, the Patriots were theatening to score their first touchdown of the game on third-and-goal from the 2-yard line. Maye rolled right on a play-action pass and targeted tight end Efton Chism in the back of the end zone.

Instead, Maye found Hunter.

Hunter secured the ball in front of Chism and got both feet down just inside the baseline for his first NFL interception.

It was Maye’s second interception of the game and his league-high sixth turnover of the season at the time that he threw it.

And for Hunter, it marked a milestone for the 2025 first-round pick.

Hunter won the Heisman Trophy at Colorado in 2024 and entered the NFL as a remarkable two-way talent projected with All-Pro upside both at cornerback and wide receiver. Hunter struggled to make a significant impact while playing on both sides of the ball as a rookie.

He tallied 28 catches for 298 yards and 1 touchdown in 2025 and posted three passes defended with no interceptions on defense.

This season, Hunter has played primarily on defense and now has his first NFL turnover to show for it.

Hunter’s not been completely removed from Jacksonville’s offense, but it’s much less of a priority in 2026. He entered Sunday’s game with just one catch for eight yards on one target.

The Jaguars are certainly hoping that Hunter’s clutch end-zone interception is a sign of things to come with his new-found focus on defense.
